Dolomites

The Dolomites are paradise for the outdoor adventurer. In addition to world class skiing in ‘Dolomiti Super Ski’ in winter, this area is perfect for a range of outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, etc all year around. There are numerous trails, ranging from easy to high intensity difficulty.

This area is unique in many ways. First, the mountains were formed when two tectonic plates collided, resulting in mountains that are covered with fossils. While you are hiking, you may be lucky enough to see millions of years of fossils right under your feet.

For the history buff, this area is ripe with WWI historical sites. In fact, there are still the tunnels from WWI soldiers built into the mountainside. These tunnels, which delineated the border with Austria during WWI, are located between Cortina d’Ampezzo and Val d’Badia. They are accessible on foot after taking the gondola lift on Passo Falzarego. Another outstanding site to hike is the Tre Come di Laverado, located an about hours drive from Cortina, where a mid level trail circles around three stone monoliths. For a real treat, plan to stop at a rifugio or mountain hut for a fresh apple strudel. Savor this local speciality all while gazing over the mountaintops of the magnificent Dolomites.

Cinque Terre

This area in northern Italy has become increasingly famous in the past few decades. Although it can be over run by tourists during high season, we suggest a visit in the lower season months (say April, or October).

The Cinque Terre literally translates to the ‘five lands,’ referring to the 5 seaside towns built into the towering cliffs. There are hiking trails that link the five towns: Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. You can reach all the villages by one path, which are walkable on one day. However, be aware that in past years certain parts of the trails have been closed due to excess foot traffic or fallen stones. Amalfi Coast

Known for its gorgeous beaches, clear blue waters and colorful seaside towns, the Amalfi Coast has been delighting tourists for years. Aside from boating and enjoying all the sea has to offer, one of the lesser known activities is hiking.

One of our favorite hikes is called the ‘Sentiero degli Dei’ or “Path of the Gods.” The name itself refers to the heavenly like view you will experience. We highly recommend using one of our local hiking guides, as it will not only keep you safe but certainly enhance your experience. The path begins in Bomerano, and ends in Nocelle, the upper part of Positano. You will require a private transfer, which we your personal travel agent will arrange. The views during the hike are second to none. As you hike several hundred meters above sea level, you will enjoy sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea below. On clear days, you will be able to see as far as Capri and its famous Fariglioni rock formations.
