On your next trip to Liguria – while staying on the gorgeous, less chaotic Portofino Promontory (in comparison to the bustling, touristy Cinque Terre) – you will undeniably enjoy incredible food. When enlisting the services of The Italian Concierge, we will curate the perfect itinerary for you, incorporating many opportunities to enjoy the coastal cuisine along the way.
Famous Flatbreads of Liguria:
In our other recent Liguria newsletters on Cinque Terre and Genoa, we told you about anchovies, pesto, and the famous Sciacchetrà wine… We have yet to tell you about the famous Ligurian breads.
Farinata originated in the city of Genoa, but it can be found all across the Ligurian coast. Farinata is a thin, flat bread made from chickpea flour, water, salt, and olive oil. Simple, yes. Delectable, also yes! It’s delicious in its original plain form, and it can sometimes be served with toppings like rosemary, vegetables, cheese, and even sauce. It’s the perfect combination of a crispy exterior and soft interior.

It’s also worth noting that the famous focaccia – a thicker bread than farinata, well-known for its airiness and dimples across the top – is also originally from Liguria.
A Cooking Experience in an Incredible Place:
For a culinary experience surrounded by scenic nature, we have the perfect place for you. On your next luxury vacation to Portofino Promontory planned by The Italian Concierge, we will arrange a private cooking lesson experience at La Portofinese: a renewable and sustainable farm located on the once abandoned lands in Portofino Park. The experience begins in Portofino, where a private shuttle will pick you up to bring you to the eco-farm. Once to La Portofinese, you proceed with a walking tour overlooking the Cala degli Inglesi (English Bay) where you will see their honey bees, vineyards, and olive trees. Then the real fun begins… You will be given the opportunity to learn how to make classic Ligurian dishes – like focaccia and pesto, corzetti (coin-shaped pasta) and pesto, pizza and focaccia – then enjoy what you have made.
They offer other experiences at La Portofinese too, like picnics, wine tastings, olive oil tastings, aperitif at the famous Portofino lighthouse, and private events.

Let The Italian Concierge craft the perfect Italian vacation for you. A stay in Portofino Promontory pairs perfectly with the Côte d’Azur in France. Together with our sister company, The Provence Concierge, we will curate a journey along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea that you won’t forget.
