ISCHIA: THERMAL SPRINGS, ANCIENT CASTLES, AND VOLCANIC PEAKS

Ischia is a lesser-known island in the Gulf of Naples. It’s easily reachable via public or private boat from Capri, Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi Coast.

Without a doubt, you must visit Castello Aragonese while on Ischia. Originally built by the Greeks in 474 BC as a form of defense, it was eventually taken over by the Romans and other raiders and invaders. One of those raiders was Alfonso of Aragon, from whom the castello got its name, since he fortified and enhanced the existing structure to protect the island further.

Relax at one of the thermal springs on Ischia and have a limone sorbetto made with prosecco (a perfect way to cool off after a soak in the hot springs).

When you are ready to be active again, climb Monte Epomeo, where you can follow a centuries-old path to the top of the island in about an hour.
